There are several reasons why foreign films are more popular than locally produced films.
One of the main reasons is that many global filmmaking companies are usually more financially robust, which means that they can have more budget for action, special effects and spectacular locations when making a film than their domestic competitors.
Hollywood blockbusters like Avatar or James Bond films are good examples of foreign movies with more visually attractive elements and stunning effects and scenes. Another reason might be that foreign films usually attract the most famous actors, actresses and directors, and it is hard for poor quality local filmmaking in many countries to compete with them.

HI GUYS I AM SHARING ANOTHER TASK 2 QUESTION

Many people think that health services should be provided by the government and should be freely available. Others argue that only privatised health care can provide good quality health services.
To what extent do you agree?

Introduction:

It is sometimes argued that whether to have a free government health services or an advanced private health care. While I disagree with the idea of the complete privatisation of health and medical services, I do believe that an absolutely free state health services could benefit several people. (48 Words)

Hi every body,
Please help me to find some brainstorming ideas from this odd topic.

"As children become adults, their social behaviour changes in some ways.
What are the main differences between young children's social behaviour and that of adults? to what extent are the changes that take place good?"

Hi Mahmoud,

What are the main differences:
- children have greater capability to acquire new knowledge, skill, and experiences (they are more creative)
- they are more vulnerable in their relationship (using chicanery others can take advantage of them)
- in their formative years, children tend to become indoctrinated by the ideas of their family (no freedom in choice for example religion)
- unlike adults, young children have a greater ability to come up with new ideas as they are under no pressure of adult's cyclic days
- happiness is pivotal in children's relationship
- adult try to augment their social relationships based on their preferences and priorities
- financial benefits and reaching a higher position in the workplace (for instance) are the essential elements of adult's relationship

The benefits of social changes:
- as children grow older they need to understand the world around them
- they are always in danger of misbehaviors such as violence and bullying
- transformation in social behaviors enable them to create a diverse range of personality traits that enables them to put up with different challenges ahead in life
- change in social behavior allow them to find their position as an individual in society
- they can respect moral and spiritual values and find out more about their civic roles
- not only is this an advantage for any individual but also for the society as a whole

-----
In IELTS ,as I figure it out, we need to answer 4 questions or at least 2 questions in writing part.
For this topic we have 3 questions in my opinion:
1- what are the main differences
2- why changes are good
3- why changes are bad

question 2 and 3 can be reduced to one question as it asked us "to what extent"

Thank you Simon

In many countries, foreign films such as Hollywood or Bollywood films are more popular than the local produced ones. And to cope the problem, governments should provide financial support for domestic film producers. The following essay will discuss in details about the issue and how governments should resolve it.

For a number of reasons, a lot of people choose to watch imported films than the domestic ones these days. Firstly, these people believe that quality of overseas actors are better than the locals. These people think that foreign actors could maximize their acting abilities and play their character well, therefore it would positively effect to the quality of the film. Secondly, audio visual technologies that are used by the local producers are left behind than the overseas ones. It is undeniable that foreign films have used modern and high technology techniques, which have created unique and astonishing visual effects.

To solve the issue, governments should have some strategies and action plans. One of the things that governments could do is to provide subsidy for the local film producers. The subsidy could be used by these movie makers to upgrade their tools and equipments, therefore they could improve the graphic and sound quality of the films. And then governments could provide scholarship for local actors to study acting overseas. By studying overseas, it is hoped these actors could learn from world class actors and improve their acting quality.

In conclusion, many people choose to watch foreign movies than the domestic ones due to the overseas ones are better in term of acting and visual effect quality. However, there are several things that governments could do to solve the problem, and one of them is to provide financial support for local film producers and actors.

Dear Mahdi,

Thanks a million for your great help.
Your ideas shared with me were so intriguing.

About 2 or 3 questions should be answered, in my mind we should just respond 2 questions which means there is a need to write every positive changes no negative ones in the second part of topic.

The reasons for foreign movies’ popularity are various. One of them is that foreign film makers have generous budgets for actions, special effects and spectacular locations, while domestic film producers do not have this luxury. Avatar or James Bond films are examples of Hollywood blockbusters that have been attracting a large amount of oversea viewers due to their tremendous investment in productions. Another reason for domestic viewers to prefer foreign movies to their countries’ is that the most famous actors, actresses and directors are from overseas. The last reason for this trend is based on the poor quality of local film making in many countries, especially developing countries.
In order to reverse the situation, governments should support local film industries by financially support the film makers. Firstly, this would give talented local film makers opportunities to express their creativity freely without any financial restrictions. Unless there was enough money to pay for film crews and actors, the producers cannot put their up-to-standard directing skill and a good script into good uses. Secondly, if local film industry was enhanced, it would lead to the increase of job opportunities, income and tourism. For example, “the geisha” was released in 2010, and quickly became a hit not only in Japan but also in the world. After that, there was an increase in number of tourists to Japan, mainly to visit the palate where the move was made.

It is true that foreign movies are more popular in many countries of the world than the domestically produced films. While there could be several reasons for this, I believe that governments should subsidize the movie making business in order to make them -popular in local markets.

One of the main reasons why foreign movies are widespread is that they are produced with the latest technologies. For example, the recent Hollywood movie – ‘Avatar’ has been a great success in many countries because of its excellent sound effects and three dimensional visuals. Another important reason is that people are always curious to learn about foreign culture and tradition. Watching overseas movies is very common way to know about the social fabric, fashion and rituals of a particular community.

To reverse the current trand, governments should provide incentives to the producers. This is required because local movies represent culture and heritage of the country. For example, a Bollywood movie ‘Once upon a time in Mumbai’ has shown the famous local festivals such as ‘Ganpati Visharjan’ and ‘Janmastami’. This has not only promoted Indian culture, but also helped to attract many overseas tourists to visit Mumbai city. Furthermore, if governments help local movie industry, it would create employment opportunities, and by this mean it would lead to a stronger economy.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that the financial support of governments would not only help local cinema to exist, but will make them thrive by competing foreign made movies, which are dominating the market at present.

On my views, there are several reasons why locally made film lose popularity to foreign films. Firstly, foreign films especially Hollywood produced films have fascinating quality in terms of graphics, sounds and high-technology made scenes, it might be happened because this films are supported by high budget for actions, cutting-edge special effects, and spectacular locations. For example, a Hollywood film named Avatar, which show how life on the other planet, has a spectacular and realistic scenes, because in this films production is utilized advanced technology in producing special effects. Secondly, most best seller foreign films are played by famous actors, actress and directors that have been widely recognized in the world. Finally, apart from foreign films perspective, locally made film-makings are poor still in quality in many countries, the obvious that can be seen such as low quality of special effect and unrealistic story plots.

There are several reasons to explain why it is the case of popularity of foreign films
Firstly, with sufficient capital that it is the attributive factor for the film industry spending money to budget for action, moreover, this special effects leads the filmmaker shooting scene of spectacular locations in everywhere, where had been recorded in its history. And tickets box film of the lord of the rings is a case in point of foreign movies with visual effects and natural views. Secondly, the people usually believe that the foreign film has cast of the most famous director, actors, and actresses. Therefore, many people spent money on a ticket to see it.finally, without the government financial support, the local film can’t shoot best movie, which means poorer quality local filmmaker need the subsidizing, and it was attracted big cast as the famous director, actors and actresses to play.

On the other hand, it is worth that the government assists the native film industries by subsidizing for the sake of its quality of the film. Furthermore, the talented local film makers need opportunities to act their creative idea on the films as well as they need money to pay film crews, actors, etc. Besides, the government has more invested money in the domestic film industry so the more successful films would be led to millions of spectators to watch. Consequently, it would be increased employment significantly. income, and tourism. Take Life of Pi for example, this film was a commercial success, earning millions worldwide.

Hi Simon,

I don't know if the main ideas for the following topic is considered off-topic or illogical. So the topic is "Despite advances in medicine and improved access to healthcare, the overall level of health is still falling in many countries. Why is this happening?" The main ideas I will explore are 1/While in many developed countries, healthcare access is improved, poor countries such as those in Africa still lack healthcare facilities and services and hence the decline of overall level of health there; and 2/ having better access to healthcare doesn't ensure people receive healthcare services they need. Maybe the cost of the service is still unaffordable or maybe economic recess and natural disasters put a strain on families and derive them from the financial resources they need to pay for the service.

My question is whether we should assume "improved access to healthcare" means "all people have better access to healthcare," so we should not argue about it, and instead we try other explanations such as unhealthy diets as a cause of health decline. Or can we explore the main ideas I suggested?

Thank you,
Gwen

It is certainly true that watching movies are human's favorite entertainment activities in their daily lives. I agree that many people enjoy watching foreign films compare to locally made films due to several reasons.
In this essay, reasons will be analysed and how state can support local film industry by providing funds will also be discussed.

There are several reasons why people tend to watch foreign films than local films. Firstly, humans are always appealed with the backdrops. No one can deny that foreign films have spectacular views, excellent scripts and picturesque backgrounds.Secondly, famous actors, actresses and directors are involved in the foreign films. For instance, Hollywood blockbusters, such as, Avatar and James Bond movies are always available in the people watched list in Facebook. Finally, many people are not interested to watch local films because of dull background and lower level technology used in the local film making. Therefore, people are always prefer to watch foreign films than locally made films.

However, I strongly recommand that government should sponser required monetory help to the local film industries in order to encourage talented people such as directors, producers and actors. By doing this, state could benefited by protecting local cultural values and reducing the unemployment rates. As an example, Regional Tamil films, such as, Muthu and Enthiran were giving much profit to the state and territory. In addition, these films show cased local tourist attractions, cultural values and beliefs. Thus, government should provide funds to the local film industry and motivate them to produce high quality films.

In conclusion, after analyzing and discussing the above points, one will always prefer to watch high quality films that has incredible plot and excellent backgrounds. I would recommend government should help local film industry to produce standard films that can compete with foreign films. If local film industry could provide standardized content and backgrounds on their films, people would definitely encourage local films by watching them.

Congratulations Premalatha. I'm glad my lessons helped!

There could be several reasons as to why the majority of people tend to watch more foreign films than their own productions. Fistly, people could experience more rich variety of contexts in movies such as special effects or spectacular locations that they never experience through domestically made movies. For example, Avatar attracted many people over the world to make them to watch it because of its outstanding computer graphic and scientific imagination that need hege budgets to create them. Secondly, in foreign films, the most famous acotors or actresses comes out, so that people would like to see them through popular hollywood-based movies. Finally, because of the poor quality of local films in many countries, more people are keen on watching foreign films that has relatively high quality.

Considering these reasons, governments should support local film industries. Talented local film-makers may need opportunities to produce more profressed and interestion movies. To elaborate, they need money to pay film crews or actors who are competent and well trained for high quality movies. This could lead to employment offering new jobs realted making movies or even encouraging viewers to visit the host countries in which the movies have shooted. The Hobbit, for instance, had great profits by making people to visit New Zealand in which spectacular natural scenes came out in the movies. As a result, the nation could promote people living in other countries to visit and eventually created numerous revenue and benefits in the tourism.

Hi Simon. I just want to ask if I will get a negative mark if I placed my conclusion as the 2nd paragraph in my writing task 2?

Hi, this topic was exactly mine at IELTS exam. Actually ,although I gave my opinion and supported by examples in the second paragraph,I did not use "I" to support my ideas neither in introduction nor other paragraph because it had not been asked directly by the words like"do you agree/disagree" or "give your idea or experience" in the question. As you know, some examiners do not agree with the use of "I" in academic writing tests. So, I want to know whether it will affect my score negatively or not? Something that was really interesting is that my reasons and even my examples that I used in my essay have been exactly the same as your post.I am really happy.thank you

hi Simon, I apologize for the unrelated question to the post but i am very confused at the moment. it is appreciated if you can spare a few mins to reply. I sent my essay for one of the ex ielts examiners for feedback. He scored 6 for my task response because i include my opinion in the instruction for the "discuss both views and state your opinion" question. He explained that because the question asked discuss both views AND give my opinion so I have to analyse both sides equally and only give my opinion in the conclusion. However,in your video about how to write introduction, you seem to include the opinion in it. he said it is the safest way to do and it is how an university essay is written. To me both ways all sound logical but the fact that he is an ex- examiner make me confused and lose my trust on ielts marking.

Hi Negar,

Please believe me when I say that the statement below is NOT true!

"some examiners do not agree with the use of "I" in academic writing tests"

Examiners are all trained in the same way, and they should all know that it's necessary to use "I" or "my" when giving a personal opinion.

If your question didn't ask for an opinion, don't worry. But if the question DOES ask for YOUR opinion, you need to give a 'personal' answer.

...

Hi Tran,

Are you sure that the MAIN or ONLY reason why the teacher gave you a band 6 is because you put your opinion in the introduction?? That sounds crazy to me. The marking process doesn't work like that - you don't lose marks in that way. You should ask the teacher to explain the score in terms of task response, coherence, vocabulary and grammar. There is nothing in the mark scheme about where to put your opinion, I promise.

I also disagree with the idea that it's "safer" to put your opinion in the conclusion, or that this is "how a university essay is written". The way we write university essays has NOTHING to do with the way we should write IELTS essays. Again, there is nothing in the mark scheme that references university writing.

I tell my students the opposite - it's safer to include your view (if the question asks for it) in the introduction, because the mark scheme says that your "position" should be "clear throughout the essay" ("thoughout" means from start to finish).

I hope this helps.

There are some factors that make some foreign productions more attractive. Firstly, an enormous budget for some foreign movies can be the key for their success. Movies such as Avatar and James Bond series have become blockbusters due to great scenography and special effects which was produced only by spending of hundreds millions of dollars. Secondly, presence of well-known actors, actresses and directors should be taken into account when talk about a movies success. Finally, most domestic made films suffer from poor quality of the productions compared to foreign made ones.

Nevertheless, I believe that government should provide financial support for local movie industry to compete with foreign rivals. By helping domestic movie makers, government provides opportunity for talented people to show their abilities and promotes country’s name in domain of the entertainment. Another advantage from states sponsoring is that the crews, actors and directors are assured to receive their reasonable pays and do their best effort. Furthermore, a good investment on movie production can have a positive effect on other areas such as art and tourism industries, and consequently helps to boost national economy.

Thanks so much for your clarification Simon. I have been watching your videos and can see the the improvement everyday I practice. The ex-examiner gave me score on the four components of the marking. He gave me 6 in task response component and that was the only explanation he gave me. I have been struggling to find a good teacher to mark my writing and follow my progress, especially with my low budget. Thanks again Simon.

No problem Tran. I think you need to push your teacher to explain the task response score in more detail.

i need to get 8 each in academic module..what to do to prepare? plz suggest something...simon sir..

hi friends here is my attempt on the above topic. Please let me know if i made any mistakes..

Movies are considered to be the major entertaining part through out the world.Besides, they were also showing a powerful impact on the individual's as well as societies,in both positive and negative manner. On this basis, foreign movies are standing far better than local movies.

However,I strongly believes, that a major of people prefer watching foreign movies rather than local movies, which are suffering with a routine plot.Likely, the foreign movie industries such as Hollywood, are in a good pace,by showing a lot of variation right from the story selection to the promotion work.Likewise, the main asset of foreign movie makers is their technical work, they were fond of using high technical standards, which in turn provide audience a new experience of watching.Considerably,in foreign film industries,it was the production team which plays a major role in movie making and thereby assuring a grand and technical output into the market.

Whereas,it is hardship for local films in order to compete with the foreign film industries. This was due to a many reasons, among all one of them was, here the entire industry binds around hero image rather than content of story or talent of the technical crew. While, the producers are also seeing to play a safe game with past successful formula instead of trying for something new. But,it is true that we do have a great performers who are capable of making magics, all we need is a path-breaking movies.

However,it is the responsibility of the government to encourage the local film industry,in a way of making more sociable and technical related movie,by aiding them with a financial support.By that way,it creates avenue for a many people to select movies as their profession and thereby creates scope in producing better results.

I conclude, government has to give its hand for the uplift of the local film industry in terms encouraging new talent with innovative ideas and movie makers also have to come up with broad minds and produce films, having both the Quantity and Quality.

Despite advances in medicine and improved access to healthcare, the overall level of health is falling in many countries. Why is this happening and what can be done to solve this problem?

please help mee out it should 600 words
