for paragraph 2 "4" wouldn't make a good answer cause the paragraph doesn't state a methodology instead a suggestion or caution

Dear Simon,
I Think that the correct answer is
A. 6
B. 1
C. 2

A-5( Nasa probes are on the lookout for planets outside our solar system)

B-1(which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans)

C-2There are, after all, billions and billions of stars in our galaxy alone, with, it is reasonable to expect, an even greater number of planets orbiting them)

A-5 (The hunt of intelligent species outside Earth---matches to - The search of alien life-forms)
B-1 (The outcome would be..don't turn out well--matched to -A pessimistic prediction)
C-6 ( based on the sheer number of planets that scientists know must exist, we are not the only life-form in the universe.)

A-5
B-1
C-6

A-2
B-1
C-6

CORRECT ANSWERS FROM SIMON:

A = 5 (the search = the hunt)

B = 1

C = 2 (probability = Hawking BELIEVES, but it is not certain)

A couple of the questions tricked some people, so check again if you got any answers wrong.

Hi Simon,

I would like to write my IELTS exam as early as possible. I am little concerned about the preparation since I have very less time to write my exam like three weeks from now. I'd say I'm just rookie and I request you to tell me where and how to start with it. I did couple of tests for Listening and I have got 8-12 wrong answers but not more than that. The FAQ and materials on this website are really worthy, I swear. I would appreciate if you could tell me how can I get trained swiftly in Writing, Speaking and Reading? Also please let me know the best place to start for all the three modules along with the links if possible.

Thanks,

Venky

Hi Venky,

My advice is this:

1. Do practice tests using the Cambridge IELTS books.
2. Go through as many lessons as possible on this site to learn the best ways to approach each part of the test.
3. If possible, find a teacher who can check your written work and help you practise for the speaking test.

Hi Simon,Thanks for the feedback.
PLease can you shed more light on this kind of questions.They seems a little bit difficult for me. Is there any cue i need to understand.
Thanks
BO

Also,how many question does one need to get in reading and Listening to get a Band 7.
Thanks
bo

Hi Bo,

CORRECT ANSWERS FROM SIMON:

A = 5 (the search = the hunt)

B = 1

C = 2 (probability = Hawking BELIEVES, but it is not certain)

Dear Somin,
thanks for this useful website.
Regarding B answer, why you chose 1 the writier opinion explained that a disaster to our plante will happened like what happened to native American, and for that yuou chose 1... but also he mentioned "would be better off doing everything they can to avoid contact." which it goes with answer 2 ?
can you please explain ?
Thanks in advance
Najlaa

Hi Najlaa,

Answer 2 is about the probability of life on other planets. Paragraph B doesn't say how probable alien life is. It only mentions that bad things could happen "if" aliens visit (pessimistic = a prediction about something bad).

Answer 4 is also wrong because he doesn't explain "how" to avoid contact with aliens.

Hope this helps

There's no secret I'm afraid. You just need to keep practising and working hard. Do as much reading as you can. Good luck!
