Here's a question that someone asked in the 'comments' below a recent lesson:
I read a lot of essays on the Internet, and some of them have introductions that include the phrase "In this essay... will be explained" or "This essay will...". What do you think of phrases like this?
I have two answers to this question:
First, I never use those phrases in my own essays. They aren't wrong, but I think they are unnecessary and they can sound a little pretentious.
Second, maybe you should stop reading so many essays on the Internet! People who do that become confused by all the different essay styles and techniques, and they often pick up bad habits. I advise you to find one way of writing and practise it. You'll feel more confident and less confused.
