I'm back with a query again ... :D

Suppose, if someone writes the initials of nouns in lower case like : america, england, australia and so on, in a writing task (Obviously showing that he/she doesn't know the basic grammar rule), what will be the penalty. Or what band score this mistake deserves in GRA.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

@Zain

Band 7 GRA: "has good control of grammar and punctuation but may make a few errors".

Normal capitalization, like periods/full-stops and commas, is something that readers are accustomed to, and therefore makes reading easier. So my guess would be that failing to use capital letters would be counted as a minor punctuation error, which would sometimes make no difference, but in a borderline case might just trigger a drop of half a band.

1. True -> "recently stumbled on"
2. False -> "a young Tyrannosaurus rex—they think."; "may belong to a juvenile"
3. True -> "that's a matter of scientific debate"; "that so-called Nanotyrannus fossils are actually juvenile T. rex specimens."

1. Not given (Fossils from various periods have been found there, and this isn't the first T. rex fossil to be found -> not mention "new")
2. False (. Adding to the rarity of the find is the fact that the fossils may belong to a juvenile -> juvenile - a young person)
3. True (Further work will determine whether the team actually has a T. rex on their hands, or possibly a Nanotyrannus, a tiny genus of tyrannosaur that's a matter of scientific debate.)

Hi Simon,
Please kindly explain your answer for 1st statement. The statement said 'new fossil" whereas the paragraph said 'remain' and 'this isn't the first T. rex fossil to be found". Is the answer supposed to be FALSE?

Thanks with best regards

Quan,

I think the sentence" this isn't the first T.rex fossil to be found" means they found a new T.rex now but they have previously discovered another T.rexes. As a result, the sentence denoted it is true that a new fossil is found.

1. True - (it could be one of the most intact (UNTOOUCHED))
2. False - (mature or juvenile)
3. Not Given - there is no information which questions existence of juveniles.
