Dear Simon,

I am writing to appreciate your kindness, in addition i am going to request piece of advice. Recently, I have faced with new problem in reading part. It means that I am always doubtful whether my answer is right or not, am I grasp question's concept truly or not? As a result, I have got in trouble not only in my time management in reading part, which is determinant key for success, but also it has negative impact on other parts.
Please give me piece of advice.

Best Regards

Hi teacher,
Here's my answers:

1. Return straitaway;
2. Unwanted shoes;
3. At once;
4. Proof of purchase;
5. You have right to insist on;
6. Likely you will get one.

PS: I always have problems with true, false, not given questions...

CORRECT ANSWERS FROM SIMON:

1. return (...shoes)
2. unwanted (shoes)
3. immediately
4. with proof of purchase
5. it is likely that you will get
6. one / a refund

Note:
The correct answer is 'true'. The part about "faulty shoes" does not give you the answer. The answer comes from the part that says "if you change your mind about the shoes" - this means the shoes are "unwanted".

Hi Maryam,

You've described the problem that everyone has with IELTS reading. There's no easy answer I'm afraid; you just need to keep practising.

Hi teacher,
I have faced with another problem. In part of statement we see word of "refund" which its meaning is money that unsatisfied customer will be received after taking product back, but in the main text we have words of "get one", that i think it is a right for change the shoes, not money.
Thank you for your notes, as well.

Best Regards
Maryam

Hi Simon!

Thank you for your great job and contribution for us. I have learned a lot from your site and tips as well. I have finished 6 pages of reading, which is very very helpful for me.

And now I have been practising with Cambrige IELTS 9, TEST 2. I have checked the answer key for question 35 (PASSAGE 3). However I can not figure out why the key for question 35(YES/NO/NOT GIVEN: If you think in an iconoclastic way, you can easy overcome fear) is "NO". I locate the following paragraph but I still choose "yes", Please help me to explain why.

"The problem with novelty, however, is that lt tends to trigger the brain's fear system. Fear is a major impediment to thinking like an iconoclast and stops the average person in his tracks. There are many types of fear, but the two that inhibit iconoclastic thinking and people generally find difficult to deal with are fear of uncertainty and fear of public ridicule. These may seem like trivial phobias. But fear ol public speaking, which everyone must do from time to time, afflicts one third of the population. This makes it too common to be considered a mental disorder. It is simply a common variant of human nature, one which iconoclasts do not let inhibit their reactions"

Hi Sena,

I too had the same problem with the iconoclast question. My way to understand why it was a NO is because the correct answer is suppose to be : If you can overcome fear, than you can think in an iconoclastic way.

Cheers,
Tharsh
