the answer is B and C

B and C

HI Simon
First of all I would like to thank you for your amazing website and your very helpful advices I took this exam two times,I got only 5 in writing task first time but when I started studying with your help I scored 7,and got 7 in writing as well. It was a very big achievement for me but I still need 7.5 to register as a doctor,I really enjoy studying and I recommend your website to friends.I can not find the words to thank you.
my answers are B and C
A is false
D is not given (Dweck argues that the growth mindset will allow a person to live a less stressful and more successful life.)but there is nothing about faillure of individuals with fixed mindset.

Hi Simon,

Here is my understanding about the passage mindsets and success.

A) First statement is against Carol Dweck view. In fact he mentions nowhere in the passage that success depends on inherited intelligence.
"Some believe their success is based on innate ability" this is not Dweck's opinion, by contrast he says that" growth mindset will allow....more successful life." So "A" is not a right answer.

B) It is one of the right answers.
"According to Carol Dweck, individuals can be placed on a continuum "(text from passage) = "Dweck classifies people",(text from question )
while
"according to their beliefs about ability and success." (text from question) = "Some believe their success is based on"
and
"Others, who believe their success is based on"(text from passage)

C) C is also right answer.
"We do not always realise which mindset we have" (text from passage) = "Individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset".(text from question)

D) Nowhere in the passage, Carol Dweck argues that Fixed-mindset individuals fail more often than those who have a growth mindset. There is a confusing statement at the end of paragraph
"Dweck argues that the growth mindset will allow a person to live a less stressful and more successful life". But "Argues" does not mean a proven statement.
"fail more often" is an established point, while Dweck only "argues" that the growth mindset "will" allow...
So it does not match with passage.

So B and C are right answer from my side.

Amjad

I also think the right choices are B and C

B & C

B & C is the right answer for me. Please advise.

B and C

Hello Simon,
The right answers are B & C
A)is wrong because innate ability or growth mindset are not inherited.
B)is right because the first paragraph mention there are 2 kinds of mindset: fixed and growth.
C)is right because in the first sentence of second paragraph talk about individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset.
D)is wrong result from in second paragraph mention about "Dweck argues that growth mindset allow person live a less stressful and more successful life".

I believe the correct answer is B and C

I used cross rule.

C is very clear "Individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset"=We do not always realise which mindset we have.

B is quite confusing in the paragraph. So, I left it for the end.

A is contradictory with the writer’ statement. So, I crossed it.( Some believe (not the writer believes) their success is based on innate ability.

D (I crossed it) as the writer didn't compare the Fixed-mindset individuals with growth mindset. However, the writer elaborated failure individually.

Thus, in the end only "B" is remaining; which is correct.

b and c

B AND C
anyone interested in skype to talk ?

c and d

B and D
A is incorrect because inherited intelligence is about fix mindset, and articles does not show success depend on fix mindset.
C can not be supported by any evidences showed in the article.
D can be proved in the last sentence of article, Dweck argues that the growth mindset will allow a person to live a less stressful and more successful life.
B can be improved in paragraph one.

C, D

As I know B and D correct answers

A) Dweck believes that success depends on inherited intelligence. No, it is just some people ‘opinion.
B) Dweck classifies people according to their beliefs about ability and success. No, it is just some people ‘opinion.
C) We do not always realise which mindset we have. Yes, “Individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset….”
D) Fixed-mindset individuals fail more often than those who have a growth mindset. Yes, “Fixed-mindset individuals dread failure because it is a negative statement on their basic abilities,”

Hi Simon, I am going to take IELTS exam in a few month (acedemic) So due to fact that I learn all the ideas from your book about writing thats why I am good at essays but I couldnt enhance my reading skills. I practice all Cambrige books from 1 to 9 and most time I get roughly 6.5 and 7. At the moment I am doing IELTS Practice Plus (1/2/3) from these books I get different reasuts :some times 27-29 correct answers but most times I get 20 correct answer. I dont know how improve my reading, whether I should do more practice or enhance my vocabulary. Thank you very much in advance

CORRECT ANSWERS FROM SIMON:

B
(classifies people according to their beliefs about ability and success = individuals can be placed on a continuum according to their implicit views of where ability comes from. Some believe their success...)

C
(We do not always realise which mindset we have = Individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset)

B and C

Dear Simon,
I extremely appreciate your useful website and you are so dedicated to help us improve and expand horizons about English.

Dear Simon,

Could I ask you about the reading passage (Multiple Choice) that you posted on Monday?

The answer that you stated was B and C.
I definitely understand that B is a correct answer, but I still do not get why C is the right answer. Do you mean that "We do not always realise which mindset we have" has the same meaning as "Individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset" ?

From my perspective, I would say that "do not always" has a differencing meaning compared to "may not necessarily". This is because "may not necessarily" means that something is possibly true but not definitely. So I would argue that the statement of C was to be like "We may not always realise which mindset we have" in order to be the right answer.

Could you please answer my question....?
I look forward to hearing your response.

Yours sincerely,
Daniel

Hi Simon!

It seems too late to do your exercise but I still want to do it.

My answers are B and C
The reason I choose B & C:

A: False cos it's not Dweck's idea: 'Some believe their success is based on innate ability- innate ability is similar to 'inherited intelligence'
B: it's not clear to know true or false
C: True clearly because we can see in the passage 'Individuals may not necessarily be aware of their own mindset, but their mindset can still be discerned based on their behaviour'
D: Not given because the passage says 'fixed mindset individuals dread failure because it is a negative statement on their basic abilities while growth mindset individuals do not mind or fear failure as much...Dweck argues that the growth mindset will allow a person to live a less stressful and more successful life.'. The text doesn't say compare that'Fixed-mindset individuals fail more often than those who have a growth mindset. So D is crossed.

Therefore I choose B & C.

Thank you

He don't give the answer huh?? :(( So how can we learn??

Hello simone.. I get ur write answers but why not D is the option.. I am confused.

B and C obviously

Dear Gurjeet kaur,

D is not an option in this case, since both fixed-mindset and growth mind-set individuals fail time to time, in passage there are ways of dealing with their fails, and no comparison which fails more.
