Hi Simon sir,

That is an interesting question but while writing a conclusion, do we need to write a one separate sentence for each one?

main reasons =principal reasons
agricultural land =farmland
less productive =degraded=unproductive

the charts give information about the major causes of land degradation globally and in three different areas.
it is clear that there are three main reasons why land becomes unproductive ,and that over-grazing is the principal reason. of the three regions shown, Europe had by far the highest proportion of land degradation in the 1990s.
according to the pie chart, overgrazing is responsible for 35percent of land degradation worldwide. Deforestation and over-cultivation account for 30 percent,28 percent of less productive land respectively, while other reasons cause the remaining 7 percent of degradation.
looking at the table, in the 1990s Europe had the highest percentage of degraded land overall, at 23 percent, and the highest figures for land damaged by deforestation and over-cultivation. By contrast, the main cause for the problem in Oceania was over-grazing , with 11.3 percent of land affected by this. Finally, North America had the lowest total proportion of unproductive land at onlt 5 percent.

Hi..... any opinion a bout this writing !!!!

The pie chart illustrates the three principal reasons of farmland being unproductive. The table provides information about the responsibility of each cause of land degradation in three regions in 1990s.
Overall, it is clear that the world land degradation is caused by mainly over-grazing and deforestation. While it can be seen from the table that the biggest proportion of land degradation was recorded in Europe.
As regards the pie chart, the main cause of land degradation is over-grazing at 35 per cent. This is slightly higher than both deforestation and over-cultivation at 30 and 28 per cent of land degradation respectively, whereas other reasons are only accounted for a tiny percentage.
Regarding the table, Europe had the highest proportion of unproductive land at 23 per cent compared to 13 and only 5 per cent in Oceania and North America in turn. Deforestation was responsible for 9.8 percent of land degradation in Europe, which was less significant in the other two regions, while land in North America was mainly degraded due to over-cultivation. Interestingly, the overwhelming majority of land in Oceania were degraded because of over-grazing at 11.3 per cent.

Hi simon

The pie chart represents the factors that are mainly responsible for worldwide land degradation. The table, on the other hand, representing the land degradation scenario in the three region of the world and also explaining the causes of such degradation.

From the pie chart, it is observed that overgrazing contributed largely to the degradation of farm land. the table reveals that farm land degradation is most severe in Europe.

Regarding to the pie chart, less productiveness can be explained due to causes like overgrazing, deforestation, over-cultivation etc.The principle factor that is responsible for degradation of productive land is overgrazing which contributed almost 35% to total land degradation. Deforestation, over-cultivation and others factor contributed by 30%,28%, 7% respectively.

As represented by the table, Europe has confronting mainly the land degradation problem followed by Oceania and North-America. Deforestation can be traced as the main reason for less productiveness of land in Europe whereas over cultivation and overgrazing are main reason pertaining to the problem we are discussing in North America and Oceania. Over cultivation is least severe factor found in Oceania and deforestation is the least severe factor to be found in North America for farmland degradation.

The chart shows the primary factors that caused farmland to become unproductive in the world. The table presents information about each degradation cause in the 1990s, in different regions .

It is clear from the chart that there are three principal reasons why farmland become unproductive and over-grazing is the main one. The table shows that Europe had a far higher proportion of unproductive land over North America or Oceania in the 1990s.

According to the pie chart, over-grazing is responsible for 35% of land degradation in the world. The next most important factors are deflorestation (30%) and over-cultivation (28%). All other possible reasons together account for only 7%.

Regarding the table, in North America, where 5% of the total land was already degraded back in the 1990s, the main reason for that index was the excessive cultivation (3.3%), which impoverishes the soil.

The observed scenarios for Europe and Oceania were drastically different. The principal reasons for soil impoverishment in these places were deflorestation and over-greasing respectively.

Interestingly, there were no records of land degradation caused by over-cultivation in the countries of Oceania represented in the table.

I got a question why we shouldn't write it together or compare to each other ?

The given pie chart shows various reasons for global land degradation and the table represents the percentage of land affected regionally due to these causes in 1990's.
According to the chart, the major reason for less land productivity was over grazing and it was accounted for just over a third.Deforestation and over cultivation were the second major reasons and they constituted 58% of land to degraded.Lastly,7% of other factors leads degradation around the world.
According to the table, deforestation was very badly affected Europe with 9.8% of land loss. However it's effect on oceania and north america was very minimal with 1.7% and 0.2% respectively. Similarly 7.7% of land was destroyed in Europe by over cultivation,3.3% in north america and none in oceania. On the other hand over grazing was very common among oceania with 11.3% of land degradation compared to north america and europe.
To conclude, over grazing was the major reason for less land productivity and 23% over all land was destroyed in europe.

Hi Simon,

I googled the IELTS writing task 1 examples on the Internet and found this one:
"The following diagram shows how greenhouse gases trap energy from the Sun.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below."

So I wonder what is the frequency of that kind of question. For most of us get used to summarizing and comparing information (mainly data) rather than describing how sth work. And what is your advice for such question?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Simon,

I just saw my IELTS exam results and i got:

Hi Simon:
Please see my answer for task 1.

The pie chart shows the three principal reasons of unproductive land worldwide, and table illustrates the causes of the land for less production in three regions during 1990.

It is clear from the pie chart there are three principal reasons why farmland become degraded, over-grazing is the main one. The table shows that Europe had a far higher proportion of unproductive land than Oceania or North America in the 1990s.

The pie chart shows that overgrazing is 35% which is main reason, subsequently deforestation is 30% and over cultivation is 28% respectively. Only 7% shares by other reasons,

The table demonstrates unproductive areas in three different regions, Europe in which higher number of 23% then Oceanic 13% and North America 5%. Interestingly deforestation and over cultivation is highest in Europe among three regions, while overgrazing is more in Oceania, also there is no over cultivation in same region.

Hi Simon,

Is there any problem if I describe numbers in a table without units? For example, the population rose from 1.2 in 2000 to 1.3 in 2005. OR another example is that the figures for male population increased from 49 to 50.1, instead of 49% to 50.1%.

Hi, Simon and everyone here,

Finally I got the results that i need for immigration purpose. Thank you so much, Simon. Your advice is defiantly helpful.

For anyone who is still struggling for IELTS, just trusting yourself and Simon. Sticking to these skills that Simon have told us here, working on your weakness and you will get the marks that you need.

Good luck ^_^

Hi Simon and everyone, any opinion about this writing

The pie graph illustrated the primary factor caused the worldwide land degradation, and the table depicted the results of these causes in three areas of the world from 1990 to 1999. It is evident that destroying forest, over-cultivation, over-grazing are the three main reasons, while have the similar proportion, whereas the others have just a mini proportion. In general, the proportion of land becomes less productive in Europe is highest, which is followed by the proportion of Oceania, while the North America have the least proportion.

The over-grazing had the highest proportion with thirty five percent. Besides, the deforestation also had the secondary proportion with thirty percent, which was followed by over-cultivation with twenty eight percent.

In the North America, the ;and degraded by deforestation have the least proportion a mere zero point two percent, while the total land degraded is five percent. However, in the Europe, the deforestation was the reason, which has the highest proportion with nine point eight percent. Lastly, in the Oceania, the over-grazing was the reason which has the highest proportion with eleven point three percent.

The chart illustrates causes for international land degradation. The table depicts percentage of land futility on three different continents during the 1990s.
From the pie chart it is clear that there are three principal reasons why farmland becomes degraded, and overgrazing is the main one. The table shows that Europe had a far higher proportion of unproductive land than Oceania or North America in the 1990s.

On a global scale, the figure for damage caused to agricultural land by overgrazing was 35%. With 30%, deforestation was the second main reason land has become less productive. The third main reason farmers couldn’t cultivate their crops was over-cultivating which led in 28% to land futility. Only 7% of farm area couldn’t be used by farmers due to other, not mentioned reasons.

23% of Europe’s square farm area was damaged mainly by deforestation (9.8%) followed by over-cultivation and over-grazing with figures of 7.7% and 5.5% respectively. Oceania saw a 13% decrease of land’s productivity caused mainly by over-grazing while North America only 5% of degraded farm area caused by over-cultivation.

Hi all, the new IELTS official guide book has been published few days before. I believe it is of great help.

Hi everyone
First of all, this is my first post in this blog after I observed essays and precious notes of everyone many times. Thanks Simon for your devoting and creating the blog.

The pie chart illustrates proportion of causes to affect land degradation around the world and the table represents the effect of land quality drop by region over the 1990s.

According to pie chart, we can sum up quickly that overgrazing took the biggest proportion for one third to destroy land quality all locations in the world whereas this factor only accounted for 1.5 percent in Anglo American region.

When we look for the degradation of land resulting from several causes around the world, cutting down the trees was the second main figure (by 30%), followed by over-cultivation in which reached for 28 percent and other causes substituted for 7 percent.

In addition, when separated by world regional criteria, the biggest cause leading to land degradation is quite different. In North America, which this total problem was 5 percent, over-plantation was the crucial factor, by contrast, deforestation was the high level cause of this problems and over-grazing was the main cause in Oceania.

Hello Mr.Simon, hello everyone,
I have a question about the tense used in this task. Which tense is more appropriate? past or present? and why should we use that tense? In my opinion, I use the past tense because this data in the 1990s. Could you make it clear for me please? Thank you very much, and have a great day.

One of the important resources in the earth is the world wide, its one of the natural gift.
Pie figure shown the world wild land degradation in 1990 based on different effect, while table shown the different between three part of the world and shows the effect of deforestation, over cultivation and total land degradation.
pie figure shows that land degradation represent the higher percentage reach to 35% and deforestation recorded 30% while over cultivation was the third effect 28% on the other hand the last one and the minimal was the other effect and represented 8%.
table illustrate effects of deforestation, deculuerivation, overgrazing and total land degradation, showing these on north America , Europe and

Europe represented the first one in both deforestation and over cultivation with 9.8, 7.7% respectively, while ocinia took 11.3% in the effect t of over grazing and Europe represent 23% which was the higher level in total land degradation effect.

Thank you!!

The pie chart shows the causes about less-production in the worldwide land, while the table shows the affection of these causes during 1990s in three region of the world.
The chart above shows the most common causes of land degradation, while the table shows percentage of total land degradation comparing Europe, Oceania and NA.
In the pie chart we can notice that the degradation is given mostly by over-grazing which is classified with the 35%. the second common cause is given by deforestation which covers the 30% of worldwide land, follow by over-cultivation which covers less than 30%. Only the 7% is given by other causes not specified in the chart.
The table shows where the degradation is more serious. We can notice that Europe is the region with the higher percentage, given mostly by deforestation which is really low in Oceania and NA. Comparing the other high percentages, the table shows that in Oceania the 11.5% of the land is degradated by over-grazing, while in North America the over-cultivation is the main cause that covers only the 3.3% of the land.

Thank you very much!!

Hi Simon,

Regarding the sample task in Cambridge IELTS 8, I would like to know if it is a must to include all the figures (in the table) in your essay.

I ask this because one of my English teachers advised me to do it for the task that has only one table.

Thank you for reading.

Hope to receive your reply.

The pie chart below shows some reasons that why our lands are less reproductive as it shows the result of 1990.there were 3 Main causes which were really degrading the lands.over grazing 35% were topest issue while deforestation was on second number whether 28 % of cultivation was on third big problem and 7% were the rest of the issues.Europe was on its highest rate really causing the surface of the lands.deforestion was 9.8 % comparing to the other regions 1.7% was in oceania and 0.2 % was in america.leading to next cause which was 11.3 % of over grazing in oceania and in north america it was 3.3% and 9% in oceania.over cultivation was 7.7% in europe and total land degradation was 23% in europe while 13% in oceania and 5% in america.so over all europe was highest degrading land whether north america was on average.

Are we allowed to write % or percent in the essay?

Thank you!

The pie chart demonstrates the causes of limited production concerning lands used for agriculture , while the table illustrates the effect of those causes by percentage in three regions of the world during nineties The most noticeable cause of unsufficient land production is over- grazing might be due to excessive consumption of plants by cattles which is of about thirty five percent , followed by deforestation,is of about thirty percent, due to industrial consumption of forest for stated developmental plans and economical expansion. The third cause is over cultivation is of about 28% , due to over consumption of soil treasury and nitrate productive bacteria found in soil eventually result in limited or unproductive lands ,7% counted for other reasons.
The highest proportion of land degradation is found in Oceania estates which is of 13% despite of the absence of cultivation.
In Europe the proportion is 23% which is mostly due to deforestation. While in North America the percentage is 5% mostly due to over cultivation.

Dear Simon,
Can we have your input into this essay topic, Thanks.

The pie chart illustrates different causes of worldwide farmland degradation and the table compares the proportion of its occurrence in three distinct regions globally during 1990s.
It is clear from pie chart that there are three principal reasons why farmland becomes degraded, and over-grazing is the main one. The table shows that Europe had a far higher proportion of unproductive land than Oceania or North America in the 1990s.
It can be seen from the chart that the main reason for worldwide farmland degradation is over-grazing at 35%, followed by deforestation at 30%. Over cultivation is contributed to 28% of global land productivity loss and other factor played merely 7%.
The table chart illustrates that the highest proportion land productivity lost was experienced by Europe at 23% during the 1990s due to 9.8% deforestation, 7,7% over-cultivation and 5,5% over-grazing. By contrast, only 5% of cropland of North America was become unsuitable for agricultural work mainly due to over-cultivation at 3,3%. Whereas, Oceania’s 13% of farmland lost its productivity during that period because of 11,3% over-grazing and 1,7% deforestation.

The pie chart compares major cause of land degradation. The table illustrates information about the responsibility of each cause of land degradation in three different regions in 1990s.

It can be clearly seen that there are three principal cause of land degradation and main one is over-grazing.It is also noticeable that Europe had a far high proportion of unproductive land than North America and Oceania in 1990s.

According to the pie chart,over-grazing is responsible for 35% of land degradation. Although deforestation and over cultivation account for 30% and 28% of unproductive farmland respectively, other reasons cause remaining 7% of degradation.

Looking at the table,Europe experienced highest proportion of degradation at 23%, due to direct results of deforestation 9.8%, over-cultivation and over-grazing at 7.7% and 5.5 % respectively.Overall land degradation in North America was twice as low as Oceania, with figures 5 % and 13% accordingly.Although over-grazing was main cause of land degradation in Oceania at 11%,in 1990s,figures for over-cultivation stood at 0%.

The given pie chart and table represents the main causes of globally farmland degradation and its impact in different regions during 1990s. Is it okay for introduction
