This is chart from camb 9 test 2...
I have problem with no. Of words,i write less than 150.please tell me how to solve this problem.

The bar chart compares the figures for amount of time spent on different types of telephone calls in the UK over a period of 7 years.
It can be seen from the chart that total no. Of minutes consumed on mobile calls and national and international calls increased over a given period. The local calls minutes usage increased and then declined to its original level. Also the local call type was most popular throughout the period.
In 1995, only 2 billion minutes were used on mobile calls and sharply rose to 45 billion minutes after 7 years. The national and international calls minutes were 38 billion in 1995 and gradually increased to 61 billion in 2002.
72 billion minutes are spent on local calls during 1995 and peaked to 90 billion in 1988.after 1999 its use decreased to same value of 72 billion minutes.

I think the passage does not mainly discuss about 3D printing.

Hi iFebruri, the answer for your question is : the use of the card is free every day after 10 am and every month except on July and August.only on July and August you don't have to pay any fares even if you use it before 10 am.So at certain times of the year (July and August) ,there are no minimium fares for railcard holder....I wish that I made it clear to you.

THank you, Simon!

hi iFebruri

the keyword is except, then everything is clear.

The answer is B - The benefits of 3D printing.

A benefit one is "the mock-up to devise a way to gauge the stability, and thus safety, of historical buildings built of brick and stone."

A benefit two is "For students of architecture and structural engineering, hands-on experience has largely given way to computer modelling."

Techniques like 3D printing could be a way of reconnecting them with the craft behind the science

B

CORRECT ANSWER FROM SIMON:

A - the cathedral is the historic structure that they are making into a 3D-printed model.

B is too general - the text isn't really about the benefits of 3D printing - it's about a specific example of 3D printing.

Hi Simon.

The whole essay assosiates with the architecture and sturctural engeneering. Solely, in last line they mentioned could be the way of reconnecting. Is "could be" the hint!

thanks

Hi Mohamed Ben Hassan and Ethan,

thanks for try to explain to me :)

why do you think that "(July and August)" is the same meaning with " at certain times of the year"

I was checking my understanding again,,, my fault is i could not paraphrase this sentence ,,, and then led to answer wrong :(

B

B.

Hi iFebruri

There are a lot of meanings of certain. One of them means is particular. I would suggest you to buy a advance cambridge learner dictionary. Hope it will help. Also read news papers.

Hi Simon "Sir"
I've been working on a few test papers from Cambridges IELTS Trainer and wondering can the real test be as tough as it ? esp. the reading section. I find 1-9 series from cambridge easier than their trainer material.

Please provide me with your valuable suggestion.
Thank you

the answer is B

My answer is B.

A

A for first paragraph and B for the second one.

B Ok Well How To Get The Correct Key?

although Simon gave the answer, but i think B would be more suitable than A.The passage has a small part that mentions about "3D printing a historical structure." and the rest doesn't relate to "3D printing a historical structure."

Why don't you chose "C"?

Hi Simon,

I thought answer B was more appropriate because apart from the very first sentence where there is a reference to the scanning of the church, rest of the passage suggests the benefits of 3D printing. Like

1. "The researchers hope to use the mock-up to devise a way to gauge the stability, and thus safety, of historical buildings built of brick and stone."

2. " For students of architecture and structural engineering, hands-on experience has largely given way to computer modelling. Techniques like 3D printing could be a way of reconnecting them with the craft behind the science,"

I would say correct answer is:B

B
