I have been working on the listening comprehension for months, yet I still can not grasp the key words in this video and other videos on your website. Every speech or conversation sounds too fast and unclear to me? Last time, I got band 7.0 in listening test, but I do not think my virtual ability has been improved. I want not only a high band, but also real capacity, so I can truely cope with the situations in real life in future.Would you be nice enough to tell me: WHAT DO I DO?

1. economic times
2. victims
3. firing line
4. led
5. ludicrous

It took me about 5 times rehearing the first part of the talk to identify the words, and I find this talk fairly hard to understand as well as to note down some keywords. As a result, I still don't know exactly what he was talking about without the caption.

Any advice for my listening in general, guys?

btw, how to listen for plural nouns? It seems that I usually cannot distinguish between singular and plural nouns in listening.

Today i have taken Speaking test too and it was ok test..topic was SEASON.

Simon, may I ask you a question about Speaking? While using the "record-transcribe-analyse" approach, which you recommend, for preparation, can I write my script before the first-time recording too, or should I just speak out my first response before writing anything?

I now use a compromising method, in order to prevent hesitating and to facilitate preparation - to type my answer in my native language and translate it via Google Translate, and then to look at its naive translation as a starting point when doing the first-time recording. Is it OK?

Hi Erik,

If your approach is working for you, and you feel more confident, then keep doing it. Obviously, you need to be careful with Google translate, but it might be ok as a starting point - ideally you would get your written descriptions checked by a teacher or native speaker.

Hi Tequila and Helicha,

Listening to another language is always a challenge, and it's normal that you are struggling. Just keep practising and give your brain time to get used to listening to fast English speech - it takes time and lots of practice, but you're on the right track!
