Hi Simon,

Is there any difference between HENCE and THUS, my tutor correct my sentence to another one, but Im not sure it is true:

For example, the rate of heart diseases has had a dramatic growth in recent years. HENCE/THUS, not enough exercises worsen body condition and impact on one’s health

Sorry I forgot to write:

My sentence:
For example, the rate of heart diseases has had a dramatic growth in recent years. THUS, not enough exercises worsen body condition and impact on one’s health

Corrected by my tutor:
For example, the rate of heart diseases has had a dramatic growth in recent years. HENCE, not enough exercises worsen body condition and impact on one’s health

Thank you in advance.

Hi,Simon. Happy Teacher's Day! Thanks a ton for your generous help.

I have a grammer question about an introduction sentence in your full eassy that was pasted on Dec 2, 2010: The pie charts compare the amount of electricity produced USING five diffentent sources of fuel in two countries over two separate years.

Did you write 'USING' as a verb, or just leave out the proposition 'By'?

Thank you, my English guru.

Aiden

Answer is A

we can easily predict answer Teamwork(C) is wrong - Importance of the individual is generally neglected

If we look answer A and B, For me both are looking correct answer as per the conversation, but Answer A is right choice since Janice insists "should be targeting is those employees who can take the lead in a situation".

Potential leaders should have a concept of leadership and flexibility towards ideas..

The speaker mentioned all the aspects of employees who should be targeted by managers such as teamwork, leadership and responsibillity. Therefore, the most favorable answer is A.

A incluses all the aspects Jenice mentioned above.

Key word in the question: should encourage
Similar word in the passage: should be targeting
A

The answer is
A
As its mentioned "Managers should be targeting is those employees who can take the LEAD in a situation "

A is the answer-because the target of the employer- those who can take the lead

I also think answer is A not only because of reason mentioned by others above but also due to the statement "are not afraid to accept the idea of responsibility." here emphasize is on "idea of responsibility" so B is inappropriate because it says "open to new ideas". I believe that Idea of responsibility fits in leadership quality and does not mean "Open to new Ideas"

Dear Simon
When I write "12th October" the correct answer is "12 October" foe example in IELTS 9 Test 3, section 3. I am confused, because I hear the numbers and dates correctly but the answer is wrong because I don't know the correct form of writing dates and numbers. Please help.

The correct answer is A

to accept the idea of RESPONSIBILITY is not be open to new ideas.

my answer is A

A is correct cuz just potential ppl lead in every situation and don't afraid from any ideas of any type of responsibilities.

The correct answer is (A) becasue she said that managers should be targeting employees who can take the LEAD

(B) is wrong becasue she said that managers should be targeting employees who are not afraid to accept the idea of responsibility NOT new ideas.

(C) is wrong also becasue she mentioned Teamwork in the begining of ger speech but she did not encourage managers to choose them. She said that the importance of individual is generally neglected.

FROM SIMON:

A is correct. Many people have explained why - see above comments.

PS. The question isn't difficult when you see the written text of what Janice said. It's more difficult as a listening exercise when you can't see the text.

i am not gud in listing but i want to get a gud score sir.....

My answer is A because of the clue "What managers should be targeting is those employees who can take the lead in a situation"

Helo simon where are u?

Hi Simon, I have a very quick question about a listening answer. In the Cambridge book the answer is "early twenties" but considering that the assignment was to write "no more than three words and/or a number" my question is: will "early 20s" be correct??

Any comments are appreciated, thanks

Hi Faryal,

I'm afraid I don't usually have time to answer comments individually. I try to make lessons that answer people's questions. Practice is the key to improving your listening!

...

"early 20s" is fine Traveler.

A is my answer !!

The right answer is definitely A. I'll try to explain why I chose it: So, although Janice mentions about teamwork, he doesn't encourage it, saying: " teamwork is in fashion in the workplace and in my opinion the importance of the individual is generally neglected". What about answer B, it is logically not right, though one may get confused in the text-meaning and choose it. I think it is wrong answer because a team also can be open to new ideas, so, for being open to new ideas, it , in fac,t doesn't matter whether it is a team or an individual. So, here he just emphisizes potential leaders.

Thanks for the text, Simon !

Answer is excatly A

A
