Here's a recent question from General IELTS writing task 1:

Dear Sir or Madam,

In response to your call for citizens to support local environmental projects, I am writing to explain how I would like to do my part.

My neighbourhood, Khayyam, has been facing the issue of heavy littering ever since the local government decided to turn it from a quiet residential area into a shopping spot. Many shoppers throw food and snack casings onto the sidewalks, and shop owners themselves tend to keep their garbage bags there, as well. Not only is this very unhealthy, but also creates a very unpleasant scene, especially on weekends when it is busiest.

Hence, I have resolved to spend one hour every Friday evening collecting trash from the sidewalks around my home. Although this might seem insignificant, I believe my efforts will indeed attract the attention of other residents as well as shoppers, and help them realise how unpleasant littering is.

However, one would definitely realise that in the long run, the town council needs to legislate against littering, imposing heavy fines and even compulsory sanitation service on those who litter our streets.

I am certain that together, we can curb the issues which threaten our health and the beauty of our city.

I saw the advertisement and would like to offer help. In my neighbourhood of Hyde Park there is a serious environmental issue, which I would like to bring to your attention.

More recently, the Albert reserve in HydePark is getting littered alot. Heaps of garbage has accumulated in the park. I find it unpleasant to walk or run in the park. Hence, I have stopped visiting the reserve.

To solve this problem, I intend to launch a campaign to stop littering in the park. I would like to educate people about the negative consequences of littering in the reserve via posters and social media. Moreover, I would be happy to pick up the litter and dispose it off properly.

To avoid the problem in the long term, I think it is imperative to introduce more bins in the park. Also, offenders should be prosecuted for littering by the local council and police.

I hope that you will help me with my aspirations to make my local park litter-free. I am looking forward to your response.

Hello Simon, Thank you I've got your ebook and it is really amazing, still working in memorizing ideas for task two, I have a question regarding listening test what is the best approach for multichoice question in section three when we have 9 answers and 5 questions I find it really difficult?
One more thing if the correct answer is "a topic" and I wrote just "topic" without "a" am I going to lose marks?

Hi Safwan,

There isn't really a special technique for multiple choice questions - you just need to do lots of practice because they are always difficult!

"topic" should be fine.

It is really nice to hear such a lovely project which will surely turn all my unpleasent immediate region to beautiful and
habital area.I and my there neighboors are volunteer in favour of any project will progress our life-standard, as well as
bring new ideas on this project.

Our new site was beautiful area in our town, It was not only attracts bird-watchers but also cyclists. it has been choosen
one of the important natural reserve with elite bird species and large green area, where allure adventurist mountain
cyclist to ride up to high hill through woodland green area. Whole picture seems like a dream, one day, when I took my daugter
six ages to playground in the morning,I have seen all around full of flying-tips , dog-fouling, spits and graffitti on play ground area.
Parents who with their kids really disgust these issue, we always discuss how to tackle with but never can be organized.

I would like kindly to suggest mine and my neighboors some points on favour of protect our near environment. Firstly, We should
update information about importantance of enviroment in public mind. This will reinforce by helping one famous and reliable
person in public-eye. Secondly, signs and litters should be set up for dog fouling and flying-tips. At this point, I and
my neighboors have already started sessions such as picking litter keep on eye on playground and green area on regular bases.

For a while, we should provide continues volunteer such as joining to project which would make the people much more attention
on eviromental issues. Then All this project would turn to be habitual behaviour in our minds.

Dea Sir,
I have read in the news paper yesterday about advertisement askingfor help with regards to the environent projects and I can offer you my help. The reason why I support your campaign because in my place the number one problem we are facing is littering. Everywhre, on the streets, park, market you can find garbage and worst of allfull of flies. It is very unpleasnt to see.
Me and the local officials called the attention of everybody and we had some meetings and orientations with regards to proper disposal of garbage. We have campaigns and we given some fliers on the bad effects of littering. We decided to put garbage cans and bags in every corner of the streets and garbage collectors to collect it every morning. Streetsweepers helps a lot in this campaign. We all know that dirty sorroundings is very harmful and dangerous in our health especially to the childrens. Fines are also increased to those who will be caught and will do one week of voluntary cleaning.
But still I believe that this problem will stop only if everyone is responsible in what they are doing. Parents should teach childrens with proper disposal of the garbage. Adults should be a good role model to the younger ones so they will become a responsible citizens.

It's so nice to live in a place where you can breath fresh and no garbage in our sorroundings.

Our neighbourhood, Black Hill, despite all spectacular scenes that has made it one of significant tourist attraction, one might notice how much litter dropped throughout the area. This would have negative impact on reputation of our neighbourhood, leading to a drop in tourist numbers and also might cause devastating effects in the environment.

As I have noticed that smoking related litter is the most prevalent item of litter in this area, I myself tend to get involved in smoking litter picking to achieve a cleaner and greener place, and am planning to encourage my neighbours to join this plan as well. However, it does seem that broader participation is required. To do so, I’d like to run a campaign to raise the awareness of individuals to change perception of those who litter and the act of littering, and to ask authorities to pass laws on littering.

I hope that those contributions will make this place greener, safer and more pleasant to all.

Hi Safwan,
I also had same problem which you mentioned. Now I overcame this problem and getting band 8 in listening. I dont try to match at the time of listening. Instead, I try to write in short hand form what I listen for corresponding question. In last 10 minutes of transfer tme, i try to make sense what I wrote and then I matched them. This is really helpful for myself.
