Read the paragraph below and choose the best heading from the list.
Reading underwent serious changes in the 18th century. Until 1750, reading was done “intensively”: people tended to own a small number of books and read them repeatedly, often to a small audience. After 1750, people began to read “extensively”, finding as many books as they could, and increasingly reading them alone. Libraries that lent out their material for a small price started to appear, and occasionally bookstores would offer a small lending library to their patrons. Coffee houses commonly offered books, journals and sometimes even popular novels to their customers.
1. The appearance of the first public libraries.
2. Intensive and extensive reading habits.
3. The reading revolution.
I think 3 is very suitable

No.3.
I think the main idea is about the reading habit changed from intensive to extensive, and the article lists some examples for extensive reading such as the appearance of libraries.

Hi Simon,
I have a question about the speaking test. Will the examiner stop or ask for clarification if the student gets him/her wrong? For example, if the examiner asks "Is fashion important?" and the student takes it as "Why is fashion important" and gives reasons for the importance of fashion, will the examiner stop the student? Probably this example is not good and specific enough, but I can't come up with a good example now.
The speaking test is, as its name shows, an assessment of the speaking ability of student. That said, if the student misunderstands the question, although s/he may answer quite well, will the score be affected? I wonder if there is any instruction by which examiners must abide. For example, if the answer merits a band 7 (just in terms of language), but actually the the students misunderstands the question, will the score be lowered?
Thanks very much, Simon.

I took the exam last saturday and I am waiting for the results now. Meanwhile, I'd like to share with you some impressions.
1. This blog has been generally SO useful, but in particular for the writing part. Simon provides you a "framework" that in my case resulted in time-sparing, whatever the score will be.
2. I had some troubles with the table.gap filling in the listening section(4). I think it is the kind of task requiring more practice.
3.time awareness! Aim to spare 5 min for every reading and writing section. I did do, used to save several minutes practising at home. Under exam condition, I used all my precious minutes and completed in a rush my reading 3 (crossfingers...). Simon wrote it somewhere. the 20min/20min/20min suggested in the readings instruction is not ideal. The last reading always requires you more than 20 min.
Thanks Simon and Good luck Ielts students!

Hi MT,
Your ability to understand the question correctly is an element of your English knowledge, and therefore does reflect your level of English. If you misunderstand once (and give a good but unrelated answer) it's not a big problem, but if you misunderstand several times, the examiner will think that your comprehension is weak or that you are using memorised answers. In this case, misunderstanding will affect your score. Remember that you are marked on the relevance of your answers, not only on grammar and vocabulary.
The examiner MIGHT stop you and ask for clarification in part 3, but not in parts 1 and 2.
...
Hi Sunil,
It's safe to assume that answers for all question types will be in order in the passage, apart from questions that ask you about paragraphs. This rule is true for 99% of questions - occasionally one or two questions are not in order in the passage, but these are probably 'band 8-9' questions, so don't worry too much about them.

Hi Taliah,
I'm afraid I have never used those materials. Have a look at them and see what you think.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for the daily lessons especially reading lessons. Can you please add some full reading lesson(part 3) occasionally. Because part3 is hard and judging answers are even more tough in short time. Thanks again for your lessons.

Hi,
I think the suitable heading for the paragraph is number 3 because your paragraph talks about how the interest of man in reading evolved through times.
Thanks.

Name the heading of the following para.
Arctic is one of the world’s least explored and last wild places. Even the names of its seas and rivers are unfamiliar, though many are vast. Siberia’s Yenisey and Lena each carries more water to the sea than the Mississippi or the Nile. Greenland, the world’s biggest island, is six times the size of Germany. Yet it has a population of just 57,000, mostly Inuit scattered in tiny coastal settlements. In the whole of the Arctic—roughly defined as the Arctic Circle and a narrow margin to the south (see map)—there are barely 4m people, around half of whom live in a few cheerless post-Soviet cities such as Murmansk and Magadan. In most of the rest, including much of Siberia, northern Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland and northern Scandinavia, there is hardly anyone. Yet the region is anything but inviolate.
1-Geographic loacation of Arctic island.
2-Resources found in Arctic ialand.
3-population of Arctic island.
